Online Marketing
You need visitors to make a website successful. That’s where our online marketing campaigns come in.
So you finally got your website completed, it looks great, and now you are just sitting back, waiting for your first sale. You get no sales, so you blame your web developer.
This scenario is common among web development projects. Just because you have a great looking site doesn’t mean it will attract visitors – you need to market it. Think of your new website as a brand new store you put up on a brand new road that no one has driven on yet. Even if you have the best looking store in the city doesn’t mean you’ll attract too many customers – you need to market so people will find you.
Once a website is completed, it is important to market it to all your current and potential customers. This means you will need to market both offline and online so people will find out about your new website.
Offline Marketing
Offline marketing can include things as simple as including your website on all your business documents (letterheads, business cards, invoices, emails…), and telling all your customers to visit your new website. Or it can include advertising in newspapers (both buying advertisements and submitting a press release about the new website), yellow pages, on radio, television, distributing flyers, giving away branded merchandise, telemarketing, sponsorships…the list goes on and on. The extent of your marketing depends on your budget and experience.
Most small businesses have experience in offline marketing because it’s how they stimulate business. It is for this reason that we don’t offer it as one of our services (if necessary, we can help you in your offline marketing campaign or recommend a firm that specializes in it). Most people have much less experience marketing online, so that’s where we want to help you.
What we can provide
While you are probably not interested in the details, it is important to understand the basics of a few of the online marketing strategies.
• Search engines – We can submit your website to both free and pay-for-inclusion search engines. While we can't guarantee a search engine position (no one can), we can optimize your website so that it does its best to get a high ranking (see Search Engine Optimization).
Example: www.google.com
• Directories – We can submit your website to both free and pay-for-inclusion directories. There are many general directories (like dmoz) and then there are industry specific ones that focus on a certain niche.
Example: www.dmoz.org
• Ads – We can design and implement an ad campaign for you and provide you with many different options.
Example: www.google.com/adwords
• Search Engine Optimization – This simply means making your site more accessible to search engines. It doesn’t do you much good having 5,000 pages of great content if the search engines can’t see it (and other users can’t find it).
• Email – Email can be a great way to market, but it also can be annoying if done incorrectly. If you have a collection of your customers’ emails, sending a monthly newsletter can be a great way to generate more sales and online visits to your website. However, if you spam (sending unsolicited emails in bulk) you can generate a lot of hate mail. We don't promote or use spamming as an advertising method.
Our customized campaigns
As you can see, there are many ways to market online and only a few of them were listed above. It takes a lot of experience to know which work well and which don’t. So why not have us develop a customized marketing campaign specifically for your business, your goals and your budget.
